Is Jesus Ever Coming Back?

Any day now! John the Baptist (in addition to Jesus), and the followers believed that the end and the Kingdom of God/Heaven was “now” (at hand) and imminent. We’ve been waiting a very long time for the 2nd Coming, so long it feels delusional; almost as delusional as Jews still waiting for the Messiah to come after twice as long. “He’s coming back any day now.” The New Testament (Jesus’ words in the Gospels especially) has a sense of urgency regarding the imminent 2nd Coming and the end of the world, because they believed that it would occur in their current generation.
2000 years later, Jesus followers still speak using this language (“any day now” “Come Lord Jesus, Maranatha”) and they seem to be just as delusional as every generation who has said these words since the first century A.D. Hoping for something does not equal believing in something.
I think it’s time to move on and stop looking to the sky for the rapture.
